Job Title: Facilities Assistant
Location: The Greater Horseshoe School, Heathfield, TQ12 6RH
Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday (room to negotiate shift patterns)
Salary: From £25,837.50 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | 52 weeks
Start: November 2026

About the Role

We're looking for a Facilities Assistant to join our dedicated team and play a vital role in ensuring our buildings, grounds, equipment and facilities remain safe, welcoming and operating to the highest standards.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with general maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving, working independently, and being part of a supportive team. No two days are the same, and your work will have a direct impact on the people who use our services every day.
What you will be doing
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across buildings, grounds, equipment and facilities.
- Supporting repairs, refurbishment projects and general site improvements.
- Undertaking maintenance tasks within your area of expertise, such as plumbing, joinery, decorating or general repairs.
- Conducting regular site inspections and identifying health and safety, maintenance or repair requirements.
- Ensuring tools, equipment and machinery are maintained, stored and used safely.
- Liaising with contractors and suppliers when specialist work is required.
- Supporting fire safety checks, emergency procedures and site compliance activities.
- Assisting with basic vehicle maintenance and contributing to the on-call rota.
What you will bring
- Experience carrying out general maintenance and repair work.
- Ideally has experience or skills in a trade area such as plumbing, joinery, electrical work or decorating.
- Understands the importance of health and safety and safe working practices.
- Can work independently whilst also being a supportive team player.
- Is organised, reliable and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Has good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of H&S Regulations required
About Us
The Greater Horseshoe School is an independent special school near Newton Abbot in Devon, providing education for young people with complex needs. Our main school site is set in a peaceful woodland environment and supported by a nearby care farm as well as a music and media specialist site, we combine academic and vocational programmes with outdoor learning and therapeutic approaches tailored to each student’s individual strengths and needs. Our experienced staff work closely with every young person to remove barriers to learning, foster personal and social development, and create a caring, inclusive environment that enables students to achieve positive outcomes and build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed for their future. At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer.
