Job Title:  Computer Science Instructor
Location:  Avonside School, Bristol BS4 5PS
Hours:      40 per week | Monday to Friday | 8.00am – 4.00pm
Salary:      £29,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:        ASAP 2026

You will deliver high-quality Computer Science and IT lessons, helping students develop the knowledge, confidence and digital skills they need to succeed both in education and in the wider world. Working alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will create an engaging learning environment where every student can achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a Computer Science Instructor, you will play a key role in delivering an innovative and engaging curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will support students with a range of learning needs, helping them develop both academic and practical technology skills while promoting independence, confidence and resilience.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering engaging Computer Science and IT lessons that meet the needs of individual learners.
• Teaching a broad curriculum that develops digital literacy, computing knowledge and practical technology skills.
• Acting as a form tutor and providing pastoral support to students.
• Planning, preparing and delivering lessons that inspire students and promote outstanding progress.
• Monitoring, assessing and tracking student achievement, using data to inform teaching and support development.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and external professionals to support student success.
• Contributing to the development of curriculum resources, schemes of work and wider school initiatives.
• Creating a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement and achievement.
• Supporting students to develop literacy, numeracy, communication and independent learning skills.
• Promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing and strong relationships across the school community.
• Working closely with therapeutic and support teams to ensure learning is tailored to individual student needs.
• Embracing new technologies and innovative approaches to enhance learning experiences.

About You

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology, committed to high standards and motivated to help students succeed.

You will ideally have:

• Experience delivering Computer Science, IT or related technology subjects.
• A teaching qualification or relevant instructional certification.
• Strong knowledge of Computer Science, digital technologies and emerging trends.
• The ability to engage and motivate students with a range of abilities and learning needs.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong planning, organisational and classroom management abilities.
• A creative and adaptable approach to teaching and learning.
• A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A passion for helping students develop the skills, confidence and independence they need for their future.
