About the Role
Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, discover their strengths and develop the skills they need for a brighter future?
At Care First – Tamworth Campus, we're looking for a caring, enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a meaningful difference to learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), autism and associated needs.
This is more than a classroom support role. It's an opportunity to help learners develop confidence, independence and essential life skills, while supporting them to achieve their individual learning goals.
Every day will bring something different. You could be helping a learner master a new skill, supporting them through a challenging moment, encouraging positive relationships or celebrating an achievement that makes a real difference to their future.
Working closely with teachers, care staff, therapists and the wider campus team, you'll provide personalised support that helps every learner feel valued, understood and encouraged to succeed.
If you're looking for a rewarding role where your patience, encouragement and enthusiasm can genuinely change lives, we'd love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Help learners achieve their potential by providing one-to-one and small-group support, adapting activities to meet individual SEND, SEMH and autism-related needs.
- Bring learning to life by supporting teachers with engaging lessons, preparing resources and creating a positive, accessible learning environment.
- Build confidence and independence, encouraging learners to develop communication, social skills, self-regulation and positive behaviour.
- Provide personalised pastoral support, helping learners manage challenges, develop resilience and participate in daily routines, including personal care where appropriate.
- Celebrate progress and achievement, contributing to Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Profiles, personal learning goals and accurate progress records.
- Work collaboratively with specialist professionals, including teachers, therapists, care staff and families, to provide consistent, learner-centred support.
- Support learning beyond the classroom, assisting with educational visits, off-site activities and practical experiences while following appropriate safety procedures.
- Champion safeguarding and wellbeing, helping create a safe, inclusive environment where every learner feels respected, supported and able to thrive.
What We’re Looking For
We're looking for someone who believes every learner deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the challenges they may face.
You'll bring:
- Experience working in an educational or student-facing setting – essential.
- A genuine passion for supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, autism and additional needs.
- An understanding of safeguarding principles and the SEND Code of Practice, with a commitment to learner safety and wellbeing.
- A caring, patient and empathetic approach, with the resilience to support learners through challenging situations.
- The ability to adapt your approach to individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
- Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills, alongside basic IT skills for maintaining records.
- A positive, flexible and proactive attitude, with high expectations for every learner's progress and development.
- A driving licence and willingness to travel between sites when required, alongside a willingness to work towards relevant qualifications.
It would also be advantageous to have:
- A Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or an equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH.
- Experience supporting individuals who display behaviours that challenge.
