About the Role
Build relationships. Support families. Help students overcome the barriers standing in their way.
At Brick Lane School, we’re looking for an experienced and compassionate Family Liaison Officer to become a trusted link between our students, their families, the school and the wider professionals supporting them.
This is a varied and influential role where relationships really matter. You’ll work closely with families who may be experiencing challenging circumstances, helping them access the right support, navigate external services and address issues affecting their child’s wellbeing, attendance and engagement with education.
You’ll also play an important role within our safeguarding and pastoral provision, acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, leading early intervention and helping ensure emerging concerns are identified and supported before they escalate.
From home visits and multi-agency meetings to parent workshops and attendance support, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to students and their families every day.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Act as a trusted and approachable point of contact for students, parents and carers, building strong relationships between home and school
- Work as part of the school’s DSL and Pastoral Teams, supporting safeguarding, Early Help, referrals and multi-agency working
- Lead on early intervention, identifying emerging needs and coordinating appropriate support for students and families
- Support families to address barriers to attendance and engagement, including targeted support around Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
- Carry out home visits, attend multi-agency meetings and work closely with Local Authorities, Social Care, Early Help, health services and community organisations
- Act as an advocate for parents and carers, helping them understand, access and navigate services within their home borough
- Lead and develop parent and family engagement, including coffee mornings, workshops, information sessions and support for families joining the school
- Line manage the school’s ELSA team, helping ensure emotional literacy and early-intervention support is targeted effectively and delivers positive outcomes
- Oversee school medication compliance processes, working alongside First Aiders, the Clinical Team, Pastoral Team and Senior Leaders
- Maintain accurate, confidential records of interventions, safeguarding information, referrals and outcomes
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who can build trust with families while confidently working alongside professionals and school colleagues.
You’ll be:
- Experienced in supporting children, young people and families, particularly where additional or complex needs are present
- Confident working with families who may be experiencing challenging circumstances or require additional support
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding, Early Help and multi-agency working
- Able to build positive and professional relationships with students, parents, carers and external professionals
- Confident supporting attendance and understanding the wider barriers that can affect a student’s engagement with education
- Organised, proactive and able to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
- A strong communicator who can advocate for families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Committed to early intervention and achieving positive outcomes for students and their families
