Job Title: Caretaker
Location: Longdon Park School, Egginton, Derbyshire, DE65 6GU
Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday–Friday | 8am - 4.30pm
Salary: £27,560 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | 52 weeks
Start: October 2026

About the Role
At Longdon Park School, no two days are the same. We're looking for a dedicated and practical Caretaker to become an essential part of our school community, helping to create a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment where our students can learn, grow and succeed.
This is far more than a maintenance role. You'll be a valued member of our team, playing a key part in ensuring our specialist school remains a place where students with Autism and additional needs feel secure, supported and able to achieve their full potential.

What you will be doing
- Maintaining the school site, buildings and grounds to a high standard
- Carrying out repairs, maintenance and general DIY tasks
- Completing health & safety checks and supporting site compliance
- Opening, securing and monitoring the school premises
- Supporting site improvement and development projects
- Ensuring learning environments remain safe, clean and ready for each day
What you'll bring
- Experienced in maintenance, caretaking, building services or DIY work
- Practical, proactive and able to work independently
- Organised with a strong eye for detail
- Committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment
- Reliable, flexible and willing to turn their hand to a variety of tasks
- Driving licence required
Experience within a school, education or specialist setting would be beneficial, but it's your positive attitude, practical skills and commitment to excellence that will make you successful in this role.
About Us
Longdon Park School opened in June 2015 and is a co-educational day school for students aged 7 to 18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and behaviours that may challenge, primarily associated with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
We operate across two specialist sites to provide age-appropriate learning environments: Egginton supporting students aged 7–14 and Branston Burton upon Trent supporting young people aged 14–18.
Our therapeutic, supportive and inclusive approach enables every student to develop confidence, independence and resilience. We help our young people understand the impact of their actions, make positive choices and develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
We are committed to raising achievement by delivering a personalised, engaging curriculum tailored to each student's individual strengths, interests and aspirations. Our priority is to equip every learner with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to achieve positive outcomes and make a successful transition into further education, employment or adult life.
