Job Title: Farm Hand - Maternity cover
Location: Wessex Lodge School, Frome, Somerset BA11 4LA
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week | Working days/times can be negotiated
Salary: £25,837.50 per annum (not pro rata)
Contract: Fixed term (One Year with possibility to extend) | 52 weeks
Start: October 2026

About the Role
Are you passionate about animal welfare and enjoy working outdoors? We're looking for a dedicated Farm Hand to help care for our animals and maintain our farm environment while supporting enriching learning opportunities for students.
As part of a supportive team, you'll play a key role in animal welfare, farm maintenance, and land management, helping to create a safe and engaging environment for both animals and students. This is a hands-on role that involves working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing high-quality care, feeding, and welfare support for livestock and other farm animals.
- Monitoring animal health and reporting concerns, liaising with colleagues and veterinary professionals when required.
- Operating farm vehicles and machinery safely and carrying out general farm maintenance, including fencing repairs.
- Supporting effective land management, biodiversity initiatives, and environmental good practice across the farm.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, biosecurity procedures, and relevant farming regulations.
- Maintaining accurate records and providing clear handovers to colleagues, including weekend staff.
- Supporting teaching and enrichment activities linked to the farm and environment curriculum.
- Contributing to the wider life of the school and promoting the highest standards of professionalism and care.
What you will bring
- Practical experience working with farm animals and livestock.
- Is passionate about animal welfare and maintaining high care standards.
- Is confident working independently and as part of a team.
- Understands health and safety, biosecurity, and good farming practices.
- Can adapt to changing priorities, weather conditions, and the demands of a working farm.
- Is committed to supporting positive outcomes for students and contributing to a nurturing school environment.
- Driving licence required
