Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only
Eligibility: UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.
We are looking for an experienced and inspirational Campus Lead to join our specialist further education college at our Great Barr Campus. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead a provision supporting young people aged 16–25 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including learners with severe learning difficulties (SLD), autism, complex communication needs and associated sensory needs.
Our learners require highly individualised approaches to learning and support, with a strong focus on communication, independence, life skills and preparation for adulthood. The successful candidate will understand the importance of creating a structured, consistent and inclusive learning environment in which every learner is supported to engage, develop and make meaningful progress towards their individual outcomes.
As Campus Lead, you will provide strong and visible leadership across the Great Barr campus, overseeing teaching and learning, pastoral provision, safeguarding and daily operations. Working closely with senior leaders, you will lead and support the campus team to deliver high-quality, person-centred education and ensure that the individual needs and outcomes of learners remain at the heart of practice.
If you are a passionate leader who is committed to high-quality specialist education and wants to make a meaningful difference to the lives and future outcomes of young people with complex needs, we would love to hear from you.
Your role will include:
- Providing strong day-to-day leadership of the Great Barr campus, ensuring learners receive high-quality, safe and person-centred education and support.
- Leading and managing the campus team to meet the needs of learners with SLD, autism, complex communication, sensory and associated needs.
- Acting as the main point of contact for staff, learners, parents/carers and external professionals, demonstrating ownership and accountability for the effective day-to-day running of the campus.
- Ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and assessment are consistently implemented across the campus, in line with the college’s curriculum, quality framework and Quality Improvement Plan.
- Monitoring learner engagement, progress and achievement, ensuring education and support are appropriately adapted to individual needs, EHCP outcomes and preparation for adulthood.
- Promoting a positive, inclusive and learner-centred culture, ensuring consistent approaches to communication, sensory needs, wellbeing and positive behaviour support.
- Supporting effective safeguarding practice across the campus, including acting as Deputy DSL where required.
- Ensuring campus compliance with health and safety, risk assessments, learner support plans and other operational requirements, working with relevant college leads and central teams where appropriate.
- Monitoring learner attendance and engagement, ensuring concerns are identified promptly and appropriate actions are taken.
- Line managing campus staff, providing clear expectations, regular supervision, performance management and opportunities for professional development.
- Developing a motivated, collaborative and accountable staff team, modelling high professional standards and ensuring consistency of practice across the campus.
- Maintaining effective relationships and communication with parents/carers, external professionals and other stakeholders.
- Providing relevant campus information, updates and performance data to senior leaders, escalating concerns appropriately and contributing to continuous improvement across the wider college.
Who we are looking for:
- Qualifications: Degree in Education or related field and Qualified Teacher Status (or working towards); leadership qualification desirable.
- Experience: Experience of working within specialist education and supporting learners with SEND. Previous leadership or management experience and experience of working with learners with severe learning difficulties (SLD), autism, complex communication and sensory needs would be highly beneficial. Experience of leading staff, improving learner outcomes and maintaining high standards of practice is desirable.
- Knowledge & Skills: A strong understanding of SEND, EHCPs, safeguarding and the expectations of further education provision. The ability to lead and support high-quality teaching and learning, manage the day-to-day demands of a specialist campus and communicate effectively with staff, families and external professionals.
- Personal Attributes: A visible, approachable and values-driven leader who is resilient, adaptable and highly organised. You will be committed to person-centred practice, have high expectations for learners and staff and be able to build a positive, consistent and collaborative team culture.
- Other Requirements: Enhanced DBS clearance; driving licence and willingness to travel between sites as required.
